Doe Maar - Is dit alles (1982) • TopPop
English: On April 25, 2022 it was announced that singer and bassplayer Henny Vrienten of Dutch Popgroep Doe Maar has died at the age of 73. RIP Henny Vrienten. Op 25 april 2022 bereikte ons het trieste nieuws dat Doe Maar-zanger Henny Vrienten (73) is overleden. Dat heeft de familie vandaag via concertorganisator MOJO laten weten aan het ANP. Een doodsoorzaak is niet gemeld, maar de zanger en componist was al langer ziek. Vorig jaar blies Doe Maar de afscheidstournee om die reden af. Er werden toen ook geen uitspraken gedaan over wat er precies met hem aan de hand was. Als een hommage aan Henny publiceren wij deze Doe Maar hit 'Is Dit Alles' uit 1982. R.I.P Henny Vrienten. Doe Maar was een Nederlandse popgroep, die invloeden uit onder andere ska, punk en reggae combineerde tot een eigen Nederpop-geluid. De band bestond oorspronkelijk van 1978 tot 1984. Doe Maar had in die jaren vooral succes bij overwegend jeugdige fans, vooral jonge tienermeisjes. Vanaf een eerste reünie in 2000 (met nieuw album) kwam Doe Maar zo nu en dan bijeen voor concertreeksen (2008, 2012, 2013, 2016–2017, 2018). Na het matig ontvangen debuut Doe Maar (uit 1979, nog zonder Henny Vrienten) haalden alle vier reguliere studioalbums de nummer 1-positie in de Nederlandse albumlijsten. In de loop der jaren haalden daarnaast acht verschillende verzamelalbums, drie livealbums en een studioalbum met nieuwe versies de hitlijsten, waarvan het livealbum met groot orkest Symphonica in Rosso (2012) ook weer op 1 kwam. Hiermee is Doe Maar een van de succesvolste Nederlandstalige groepen. Deze uitvoering van 'Is Dat Alles' is opgenomen tijdens de uitreiking van de Platenpublieksprijs aan Nederlandse artiesten tijdens het AVRO's Platengala Nationaal op 15 oktober in de Flint in Amersfoort. Kool & The Gang - Get Down On It (1982) - TOPPOP
Kool & the Gang is an American band formed in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1964 by brothers Robert "Kool" Bell and Ronald Bell, with Dennis "D.T." Thomas, Robert "Spike" Mickens, Charles Smith, George Brown, and Ricky West. They have undergone numerous changes in personnel and have explored many musical styles throughout their history, including jazz, soul, funk, rock, and pop music. After settling on their name following several changes, the group signed to De-Lite Records and released their debut album, Kool and the Gang (1970). The band's first taste of success came with the release of their fourth album Wild and Peaceful (1973), which contained the US top-ten singles "Jungle Boogie" and "Hollywood Swinging". Kool & the Gang subsequently entered a period of decline before they reached a second commercial peak between 1979 and 1986 following their partnership with Brazilian musician/producer Eumir Deodato and the addition of singer James "J.T." Taylor to the line-up. Their most successful albums of this period include Ladies' Night (1979), Celebrate! (1980), and Emergency (1984), their highest selling album with two million copies sold in the US. Their hit singles during this period included "Ladies' Night", the US number one "Celebration", "Get Down on It", "Joanna", "Misled", and "Cherish". The band continues to perform worldwide, including as support for Van Halen in 2012 and their fiftieth-anniversary tour in 2014. On November 15, 2021, ABBA's Anni-Frid celebrated her 76th birthday! Princess Anni-Frid, Dowager Countess of Plauen (née Lyngstad; born 15 November 1945), better known by her nickname Frida, is a Norwegian-Swedish singer, songwriter and environmentalist. She is best known as one of the founding members and lead singers of the Swedish pop band ABBA. In 1982, during ABBA's last year as a working band, Frida recorded and released her first post-ABBA solo album. This was also her first solo album in English. The Phil Collins-produced album called 'Something's Going On' became a big success for Frida worldwide. A much rockier sound was found on many of the songs and Phil Collins' drum sound had a major contribution, particularly on the lead single, "I Know There's Something Going On", which topped the charts in Belgium and Switzerland, and was a top 5 hit in Australia, Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, South Africa and Sweden amongst others. With the song and video being heavily promoted and played on MTV, the single also proved successful in the United States, reaching No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 (and No. 9 on Radio & Records) in March 1983, and was the 20th biggest selling single in the US that year. In the UK, the track was not a successful hit, only reaching No. 43. Queen - Platinum Record Presentation - 18-05-1982 • TopPop
On April 24, 1982 Queen were in Holland to play the 'Groenoordhallen' in Leiden. At this occasion Freddie Mercury, John Deacon, Brian May and Roger Taylor received a platinum record for sales of over one million albums in the Netherlands. Donna Summer - Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger) (1982) • TopPop
Today, May 17, 2021, we commemorate Donna Summer's untimely death nine years ago. LaDonna Adrian Gaines (December 31, 1948 – May 17, 2012), known professionally as Donna Summer, was an American singer, songwriter and actress. She gained prominence during the disco era of the 1970s and became known as the "Queen of Disco", while her music gained a global following. Joining a touring version of the musical Hair, she left New York and spent several years living, acting and singing in Germany, where she met music producers Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte in Munich, where they recorded influential disco hits such as "Love to Love You Baby" and "I Feel Love", marking her breakthrough into an international career. Summer returned to the United States in 1975, and other hits such as "Last Dance", "MacArthur Park", "Heaven Knows", "Hot Stuff", "Bad Girls", "Dim All the Lights", "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" (duet with Barbra Streisand) and "On the Radio" followed. "Love Is in Control (Finger on the Trigger)" is a Grammy-nominated single from Donna Summer's self-titled 1982 album. The single was her 12th top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This music video features Donna Summer dancing in a room full of pop art. She wore a black satin outfit to disguise her pregnancy as she was expecting her baby, Amanda Grace. The video also featured clips of Donna dancing during a photo shoot wearing a blue dress with a large belt to cover her stomach. The same dress (outfit) is what she is wearing on the cover for the single and album. The video was first broadcast by Toppop on August 20, 1982. The Mo - Cheese - (1982) • TopPop
The Mo, also known as Mo for short, was a Dutch pop band that was founded in 1979 by the brothers Clemens and Huub de Lange. Their debut album 'Mo', with Heili Helder as singer and Harm Bieger as drummer, had a unique instrumentation for that time: both electric guitar and bass guitar were missing. Instead, keyboard instruments were used (including Wurlitzer piano and Clavinet) and a classical wind instrument: the bassoon. In February 1981 the album reached the top 10. Single success was for Nancy (1980), and above all for Fred Astaire (1981). After Huub de Lange had left the group at the beginning of 1981 and was succeeded by Ton van der Meer, the group fell apart in June 1981 when Heili Helder and Clemens de Lange left. Bieger and Van der Meer then made a new start. With two new band members - singer Linda Bloemhard and keyboardist Hans Nieuwint - they tried to copy the original Mo and follow up on the success. This single is from the second album 'Ha Ha! The Sound of Laughing' in that line-up. Nederlands: The Mo, ook wel kortweg Mo genoemd, was een Nederlandse popband die in 1979 werd opgericht door de broers Clemens en Huub de Lange. ABC - Poison Arrow (1982) • TopPop
ABC are an English pop band formed in Sheffield in 1980. Their classic line-up consisted of lead singer Martin Fry, guitarist and keyboardist Mark White, saxophonist Stephen Singleton and drummer David Palmer. Developed from an earlier band, Vice Versa, ABC achieved ten UK and five US Top 40 hit singles between 1981 and 1990, and their 1982 debut album, The Lexicon of Love, was a UK number one. Their early-1980s success in the US saw them associated with the Second British Invasion. AVROTROS is a Dutch radio and television broadcaster, founded in 2014 from a merger of AVRO and TROS. From January 1st, 2014 the name of the merged broadcaster was used in joint programmes. AVRO was founded in 1923 as the Netherlands first public broadcaster. TROS started broadcasting in 1964. Toppop was a weekly AVRO pop program that was aired between 1970 and 1988. AVROTROS Broadcasting PO Box 2 1200 JA Hilversum The Netherlands TopPop was the first regular dedicated pop music TV show in the Dutch language area. Dutch broadcaster AVRO aired the programme weekly, from 1970 to 1988. Presenter Ad Visser hosted the show for its first fifteen years. World famous music artists performed on TopPop: ABBA, 10CC, Bee Gees, The Jacksons with Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Earth & Fire, Queen, Golden Earring, Boney M, KC & The Sunshine Band, Chic, Donna Summer and many many more.
