Brotherhood of Man - Save Your Kisses For Me • TopPop
Brotherhood of Man are a British pop group who achieved success in the 1970s. They won the 1976 Eurovision Song Contest with "Save Your Kisses for Me". Created in 1969 by songwriter and record producer Tony Hiller, Brotherhood of Man was initially an umbrella title for a frequently-changing line-up of session singers. Early on, they scored a worldwide hit with the song "United We Stand". By 1973 the concept had run its course and Hiller formed a definite four-member line-up consisting of Martin Lee, Lee Sheriden, Nicky Stevens and Sandra Stevens. This version of the group went on to score many hits around the world in the mid to late 1970s. This recording was made by AVRO TV for Toppop's 10th Anniversary on 26 October 1980. Marmalade - Reflections Of My Life (1969) 4K 04:20
Marmalade - Reflections Of My Life (1969) 4K
Marmalade performing "Reflections of My Life", released originally in 1969. It reached #2 in Ireland, #3 in the UK Singles Chart, #6 in the Canada Top Singles, #7 in the US Cash Box Top 100 and #10 in the US Billboard Hot 100. This dramatic ballad from the Age of Aquarius finds the singer describing a very bleak outlook on life and the times. The song was sort of a hippie version of the blues. The recording took place over three days in October 1969 at Decca Studios 2 and 1 in West Hampstead London with band members Graham Knight on bass, Alan Whitehead on Drums, Pat Fairley on acoustic guitar, and Junior Campbell on keyboards and electric guitars. Dean Ford sang lead vocal and Junior Campbell and Graham Knight provided harmony vocals. The Marmalade were a Scottish pop group who enjoyed several hits in the UK between 1968 and 1976. Originally a band called Dean Ford & The Gaylords, they changed their name to Marmalade in 1967. They are best remembered in Britain for their cover of the Beatles song "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" which topped the UK charts around Christmas 1968. In 1969, they signed to Decca Records, and their contract gave them complete freedom to write and produce their own records. The fruits of this arrangement was the recording of this song with its distinctive backwards guitar break, which was their only American hit. The Rolling Stones - Honky Tonk Women (TOTP, 10th July 1969 - TAPED on 3rd July!)
This clip was rebroadcast on 'Hits A Go Go' (Swiss TV) on 24th September 1969, but the original source is a long lost 'Top Of The Pops' appearance, first broadcast on 10th July 1969 (and taped on 3rd July 1969, just hours after the death of Brian Jones). ____________________________________________________________________________ UNDERCOVER: 500 ROLLING STONES COVER VERSIONS THAT YOU MUST HEAR! by Peter Checksfield Mick and Keith learned fast. Initially Rhythm ‘n’ Blues purists who believed that only ageing black Americans could write decent songs, they released their first original song ‘Stoned’ (a group-composed near-instrumental) as the UK B-side of their version of Lennon-McCartney’s ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’ in November 1963; within 18 months they had written and recorded ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’, and had become The Beatles’ biggest musical rivals. Now that is fast! In the 60 years since they started, there have been thousands of Rolling Stones cover versions. Music historian Peter Checksfield listened to most of them (so you don’t have to), and came up with the best 500, in a staggering variety of genres: Rock, Blues, Soul, Garage, Psych, Prog, Beat, Reggae, Ska, Pop, Funk, Disco, Country, Folk, Bluegrass, Rockabilly, Glam, Metal, Punk, New Wave, Indie, Gothic, Grunge, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Bossa Nova, World, Gospel, Electronica, Boogie Woogie, Jazz, even Cabaret, Polka and Classical. Also included are a mammoth 130 exclusive interviews with many of the musicians involved. Which former Rolling Stone recorded ‘Play With Fire’ in the 90s? Who’s favourite album is ‘Jamming with Edward’? What legendary Punk group wanted to cover the entire ‘Their Satanic Majesties Request’ but ran out of time after 1 song? Flaming Youth - Earthglow - ARK-2 - 1-11-1969 • TopPop
Flaming Youth were a British rock band, active in the late 1960s. They were not commercially successful and are remembered primarily as Phil Collins’ first band that had a recording deal. In 1969, American singer John Walker, of the Walker Brothers, toured in England, and was accompanied by keyboardist Brian Chatton, bassist Gordon "Flash" Smith, guitarist Ronnie Caryl and drummer Phil Collins. After the tour, they decided to get on together, calling themselves Hickory, and recorded a single in 1969, "Green Light/The Key". The group met songwriters Ken Howard and Alan Blaikley, who were looking for a band to record an album they were working on, so they changed their name to Flaming Youth. They released the album Ark 2 in 1969. In November, New Musical Express reported that the concept album was the subject of an hour-long television special, which the group had filmed in the Netherlands. The LP was released on Fontana Records in the UK to some critical but no commercial success. There was also a follow-up single recorded, "Man, Woman, and Child". The band had difficulty getting gigs and the band finally broke up in early 1970. Phil Collins joined Genesis and the rest is history. This is one of the recordings made by AVRO television with the recoding of the TV special of Ark 2. Recorded on 1 November 1969. Watch our great music videos ❯ https://goo.gl/feVLNN More TopPop?
