Paul Anthony Young (Luton, 17 januari 1956) is een Britse popmuzikant. With the band Q-Tips he scored a hit in 1980 with 'S.Y.S.Q.L.M'. In 1982, Young began a solo career. The single 'Love of the common people', released in that year, was initially a flop, but in the summer of 1983 he scored an international hit with the song 'Wherever I lay my hat' (originally by Marvin Gaye). This single became a number 1 hit in the United Kingdom. Its successor, 'Come back and stay', was also successful worldwide. In 1984 a remixed version of 'Love of the common people'reached first place in the Netherlands and Belgium. His debut album 'No parlez' (1983) was awarded several platinum records. It was number 1 in various countries, including in Germany (11 weeks), the United Kingdom (5 weeks) and in the Dutch Album Top 100 (7 weeks). His second album, 'The secret of association', was released in 1985 and yielded Young hits such as 'I'm gonna tear your playhouse down', 'Everything must chang'e and 'Everytime you go away'. He also sang with Band Aid. Wonderland is a 1986 song by British singer Paul Young. It is the lead single from his third studio album Between Two Fires. Wonderland is a ballad with gospel influences. The song became a small hit on the British Isles, in Australia and in the Dutch language area. In the United Kingdom it reached the 24th position. In the Dutch Top 40 the song made it to the twelfth position and in the Flemish Radio 2 Top 30 it came a spot higher. TopPop was the first regular dedicated pop music TV show in the Dutch language area. Dutch broadcaster AVRO aired the programme weekly, from 1970 to 1988. "You Keep Me Hangin' On" is a 1966 song written and composed by Holland–Dozier–Holland. It first became a popular Billboard Hot 100 number one hit for the American Motown group the Supremes in late 1966. The rock band Vanilla Fudge released a cover version the following year, which became a top ten hit. British pop singer Kim Wilde covered "You Keep Me Hangin' On" in 1986, bumping it back to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1987. In the first 32 years of the Billboard Hot 100 rock era, "You Keep Me Hangin' On" became one of only six songs to reach number 1 by two different musical acts.[1] In 1996, country music singer Reba McEntire's version reached number 2 on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. Centerfold was a Dutch all girl band from the 1980's. The original line-up was: Laura Fygi, Rowa Moore and Cecilia de la Rie. With the release of their first single "Bad boy", the three ladies made a spicy photo session in the Playboy. Centerfold quickly became a household name due to her sexy image. This is because the ladies often performed in lingerie or miniscule clothing. Various radio and television appearances at home and abroad were the result including the performance in Toppop. The subsequent single 'Pump it up', written by Michael and Danny Sembello, was the first TROS Parade record of 1985 on Hilversum 3 on Thursday 3 January. The record became a modest hit and only reached the Tip Parade and the Tip 30 of the National Hit Parade. Tina Turner (born Anna Mae Bullock; November 26, 1939) is an American-born singer, songwriter, and actress. Widely referred to as the "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll", she is regarded as one of the greatest music artists of the 20th century. Turner rose to prominence as the lead singer of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue before launching a successful career as a solo performer. She has won 11 Grammy Awards and her live shows have attracted millions of people. "Private Dancer" is a 1984 song recorded by her for her album of the same name. First recorded by British rock band Dire Straits, it was written by the group's lead vocalist Mark Knopfler and produced by John Carter for Turner's fifth solo album. Released as the album's fifth single, the track reached number seven on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number three on the US R&B chart. The song reached no. 4 in the Dutch Top 40.
