Ohio Players is an American funk band, most popular in the 1970s. They are best known for their songs "Fire" and "Love Rollercoaster"; as well as for their erotic album covers that featured nude or nearly nude women. Many of the women were models featured in Playboy. The singles "Funky Worm", "Skin Tight", "Fire", and "Love Rollercoaster"; as well as their albums Skin Tight, Fire, and Honey, were awarded Gold certifications. 'Something For The Girl With Everything' is the second single from the album 'Propaganda' by US act Sparks ft. the brothers Ron and Russell Mael from L.A. The album followed its predecessor 'Kimono My House' by half a year and was a successful album in the UK and US. It reached #9 on the UK Album Chart and #63 on the Billboard 200. The singles "Never Turn Your Back on Mother Earth" and "Something for the Girl with Everything", while not as successful as those from 'Kimono My House' both reached the top twenty in the UK reaching number 13 and number 17 respectively. Eruption feat. Precious Wilson - I Can't Stand The Rain (1978) • TopPop
Eruption were a British disco, R&B and soul recording act in the 1970s and 1980s. They are best known for their covers of Ann Peebles's "I Can't Stand the Rain" and Neil Sedaka's "One Way Ticket", which were big disco hits in 1978 and 1979. The band was formed in 1969 as a school band in the United Kingdom as Silent Eruption, and consisted of musicians of Caribbean origins. The group changed the name to Eruption in 1974. In 1975 Precious Wilson joined the band as a backing singer and they won the RCA Soul Search contest and their first single "Let Me Take You Back in Time" was released. The group didn't find a singer who could replace Lindel Leslie so backing singer Precious Wilson became the lead singer. In 1977 they went on the road in Germany where they were discovered by Hans-Jörg Mayer who worked as a talent scout for Frank Farian (the producer of Boney M.) Farian signed the group with the Germany-based Hansa Records and the band was the backing band and the support act for Boney M's first European tour. Their 'comeback' single "Party, Party" did well in 1977, but their cover of "I Can't Stand the Rain" released in December 1977 was an international hit, reaching No. 1 in Belgium and Australia, No. 5 in the UK Singles Chart and No. 18 in the US Billboard Hot 100. Afterwards, in the spring of 1978, "Party, party" was re-released and became a hit in the Benelux countries. Both songs were included in their first album, released in December 1977. It was followed by their second album titled Leave a Light, launched towards the end of 1978. Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Spirits In The Night - 19-09-1975 • TopPop
Manfred Mann's Earth Band is an English rock band formed by South African musician Manfred Mann. Their hits include covers of Bruce Springsteen's "For You", "Blinded by the Light" and "Spirit in the Night". After forming in 1971 and with a short hiatus in the late 1980s/early 1990s, the Earth Band continues to perform and tour. Keyboardist Manfred Mann started in the 1960s with the self-titled band that had such hits as "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" and Bob Dylan's "The Mighty Quinn" and then moved on to jazz fusion-inspired Manfred Mann Chapter Three before forming the Earth Band in 1971. The original line-up of Manfred Mann's Earth Band consisted of Mick Rogers (guitar and vocals), Manfred Mann (keyboards, Minimoog synthesizer and vocals), Colin Pattenden (bass guitar) and Chris Slade (drums and vocals). In its very earliest stages, the band was simply billed as "Manfred Mann" and thus a continuation of the 1960s group. The US breakthrough for the band came in the third week of February 1977, when they charted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Blinded by the Light" from The Roaring Silence. Before this hit, Mick Rogers and Colin Pattenden had left the band (after Nightingales & Bombers) and Chris Thompson (lead vocals, guitar), Dave Flett (lead guitar, backing vocals) and Pat King (bass) had been quickly recruited to replace them (although Rogers still contributed backing vocals to the album). Taking advantage of the publicity of their hit song, the band re-released another Springsteen song, "Spirit in the Night", re-titled "Spirits in the Night", which the band had released the previous year on Nightingales & Bombers, in a vocally re-cut version with Chris Thompson taking a new lead vocal in place of Mick Rogers' vocal on the original album version. Following this popular success, the Earth Band released the aforementioned Watch (1978), which produced another UK hit single in "Davy's on the Road Again". Udo Jürgens (born Jürgen Udo Bockelmann; 30 September 1934 – 21 December 2014) was an Austrian composer and singer of popular music whose career spanned over 50 years. He won the Eurovision Song Contest 1966 for Austria, composed close to 1,000 songs, and sold over 100 million records. In 2007, he additionally obtained Swiss citizenship. He is credited with broadening German-language pop music beyond the traditional post-war "Schlager" (hit song) in the 1950s by infusing it with a modern pop appeal and French chanson style. His compositions and arrangements attracted fans of all ages. Until his death at age 80, he continued to fill venues in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Shabby Tiger - Slow Down (TopPop) 1975
Shabby Tiger was een Britse Glamrockband met hoogtijdagen tussen 1974 en 1976. De band werd in eigen land niet of nauwelijks opgemerkt (volgens sommigen zelfs geboycot), en behaalde haar successen vooral in Scandinavië, Duitsland, Nederland en België. De succesbezetting bestond uit Henderson Gibson (zang), Toni Baker (keyboard), Graham Fielden (drums), Dave Almond (gitaar) en Mike Ryan (bas), van wie de laatste vier anno 2022 nog in leven zijn. Zanger "Hendy" Gibson is op 26 maart 2013 aan de gevolgen van longkanker overleden. De oorsprong van de band ligt in het noorden van het Verenigd Koninkrijk, alwaar de band in de begin jaren 70 in het clubcircuit optrad. Al snel werd de band naar Londen gehaald voor enkele optredens, waar ze een platencontract bij RCS aan overhielden. De eerste single "Slow Down" haalde de hitparades in Scandinavië, Duitsland, Nederland en België maar redde het niet in in het VK waarschijnlijk door onvoldoende airplay op de destijds belangrijke zender Radio One. Er volgden tal van optredens in het buitenland (zoals Top Pop in Nederland). De band trad vaak op met The Sweet, Darts en Thin Lizzy (in de genoemde landen) en probeerde door te breken in het VK wat maar niet wilde lukken. Zangeres zonder Naam is a legendary Dutch singer. She had a string of hits in the Netherlands. This TopPop recording was first broadcast on April 4, 1975. Zij vertolkte onder de artiestennaam Zangeres Zonder Naam decennialang het Nederlandse levenslied, hetgeen haar de bijnaam 'Koningin van het Levenslied' opleverde. Fox were a British-based pop band popular in the mid-1970s. Led by American songwriter and record producer Kenny Young, the band was perhaps best known for its charismatic Australian lead singer Noosha Fox (Susan Traynor). They achieved three top 20 hits on the UK Singles Chart - "Only You Can" and "Imagine Me, Imagine You" in 1975 and "S-S-S-Single Bed" in 1976, and Noosha Fox achieved a solo hit in 1977 with "Georgina Bailey". The Shirts - Tell Me Your Plans • TopPop
The Shirts are a New York-based American punk band, which was formed in 1975. The band’s early existence (1975 to 1981) was closely linked with CBGB, a music club in the Bowery, but it reformed with many of the early members in 2003 and is currently active. The Shirts had their roots in Brooklyn, where Robert Racioppo and Artie Lamonica had been playing together on and off as early as 1970. Members of the band were gradually added (including lead singer Annie Golden) in the next three years. The band got its name when Racioppo, having just broken up his existing band, asserted his desire to form a new one, and his indifference to its name: "call it anything ... shirts ... pants ... shoes ... The Shirts!" The original line-up was singer Annie Golden, Artie Lamonica (guitar, vocals), Ron Ardito (guitar, vocals), John Piccolo (keyboards), Bob Racioppo (bass, vocals) and John Criscione (drums , percussion). The single 'Tell Me your Plans reached #4 in the Dutch Top 40 on November 11, 1978. This Toppop recording was first broadcast on September 16, 1978. The Shirts also recorded 'Reduced To A Whisper' for Toppop, which was never broadcast. The follow up single Laugh And Walk Away' reached #12 in the Dutch Top 40 on December 1, 1979. Sweet Sensation was an eight piece British soul group who had some success in the mid-1970s.They are best known for their 1974 No. 1 UK hit, "Sad Sweet Dreamer". Formed in Manchester in 1971, the band came to prominence after appearing on the ITV talent show New Faces. Under the guidance of panellist Tony Hatch, the band signed to Pye Records.
