Bellamy Brothers - Satin Sheets (1976) • TopPop
The Bellamy Brothers are an American pop and country music duo consisting of brothers David Milton Bellamy (born September 16, 1950) and Homer Howard Bellamy (born February 2, 1946), from Darby, Florida. The duo had considerable musical success in the 1970s and 1980s, starting with the release of their crossover hit "Let Your Love Flow" in 1976, a Number One single on the Billboard Hot 100. Starting in the late 1970s, the Bellamy Brothers found success in country music as well, charting 10 number one singles, 25 Top 10 and more than 50 hits overall on the country charts. To date, they have released more than 50 albums, primarily on Curb Records. They have also enjoyed success in continental Europe, with a compilation album topping the Norwegian charts in 2011 and over two dozen hit songs that were released outside the US market. In 2013, their album Bellamy Brothers & Friends: Across the Sea landed at No. 5 in the Swiss music chart and took the top spot in album sales for weeks in Switzerland. It was their third major release in Europe in three years. Their album Mermaid Cowgirl, recorded in Switzerland and released in 2014, won them Gold Record status in Switzerland. Tina Charles - Dance Little Lady Dance (1976) • TopPop
Tina Charles (born Tina Hoskins; 10 March 1954) is an English singer who achieved success as a disco artist in the mid to late 1970s. Charles' big break came when Indian-British composer/producer Biddu, who had just enjoyed success with the disco song "Kung Fu Fighting" for Carl Douglas, produced the singles "You Set My Heart on Fire" and "I Love to Love (But My Baby Loves to Dance)" for her. The latter single spent three weeks at number one on the UK chart in March 1976, and was a major hit around the world. It won a Juno Award in 1977. Biddu's collaboration continued on a future album and another song hit: "Dance Little Lady Dance". In total, Charles spent 42 weeks on the UK Singles Chart in 1976 alone, mainly due to these two records. ABBA - When I Kissed The Teacher - 19 November 1976 - Toppop
On November 19, 1976, ABBA were on top of the charts around the world. Their album ‘Arrival’ was just released and in many countries on its way to the top of the album charts. And the latest single, ‘Money Money Money’ was already no. 1 in many countries. In the Netherlands, ABBA-mania reached its peak that day. ABBA paid a spectacular one day visit that November 19, 1976 to the Netherlands to promote ‘Arrival’ with a full program: a press conference with gold and platinum record awards, photo sessions and interviews and to top it all, a performance in the super popular AVRO tv- program ‘Een van de 8’. Earlier that year ‘Fernando’ and ‘Dancing Queen’ had been in the no. 1 spot of the Dutch Top 40 for many weeks. And now ‘Money Money Money’ was on its way to become their third consecutive No. 1 hit in the Netherlands within six months. ABBA was super hot. This is one of the long lost tapes of that tv program in which ABBA did three songs from Arrival: ‘Money Money Money’, ‘When I Kissed The Teacher’ and ‘Why Did It Have To Be Me’. The Steve Miller Band is an American rock band formed in 1966 in San Francisco, California. The band is led by Steve Miller on guitar and lead vocals. The group had a string of mid- to late-1970s hit singles that are staples of classic rock radio, as well as several earlier psychedelic rock albums. Miller left his first band to move to San Francisco and form the Steve Miller Blues Band. Shortly after Harvey Kornspan negotiated the band's contract with Capitol Records in 1967, the band shortened its name to the Steve Miller Band. In February 1968, the band recorded its debut album, Children of the Future. It went on to produce the albums Sailor, Brave New World, Your Saving Grace, Number 5, Rock Love, Fly Like an Eagle, Book of Dreams, among others. The band's Greatest Hits 1974–78, released in 1978, sold over 13 million copies. In 2016, Steve Miller was inducted as a solo artist in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 'Rock'n Me' is the 3rd single from 'Fly Like an Eagle', the ninth studio album by the Steve Miller Band. The album was released in May 1976 by Capitol Records in the United States, Canada and Japan and Mercury Records in Europe. The album was a success, spawning three singles: the title track, "Take the Money and Run" and "Rock'n Me", and eventually receiving quadruple platinum certification from the RIAA. It was voted number 400 in the third edition of Colin Larkin's All Time Top 1000 Albums (2000). Poco - Rose Of Cimarron (1976) • TopPop
Today we commemorate Rusty Young, guitar and pedal steel guitar player with Poco, who unfortunately died of a heart attack on April 14, 2021. He was 75 years old. Norman Russell "Rusty" Young (February 23, 1946 – April 14, 2021) was an American guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, best known as one of the frontmen in the influential country rock and Americana band Poco. A virtuoso on pedal steel guitar, he was celebrated for the ability to get a Hammond B3 organ sound out of the instrument by playing it through a Leslie speaker cabinet and as an innovator of producing other rock sounds from the instrument. Poco is an American country rock band originally formed in 1968 after the demise of Buffalo Springfield. Guitarists Richie Furay and Jim Messina, former members of Buffalo Springfield, were joined by multi-instrumentalist Rusty Young, bassist Randy Meisner, and drummer George Grantham. Meisner quit the band during the recording process for the first album, Pickin' Up the Pieces, though his bass and backing vocal parts were kept in the final mix. He was replaced by Timothy B. Schmit in 1969, and Messina left in 1970 to be replaced by Paul Cotton. The line-up would change numerous times over the next several decades, with Rusty Young being the only constant member. A reunion of the founding members occurred in the late 1980s-early 1990s, and the band has continued in some form through the present day, though they retired from active touring in 2013, with Young citing health concerns as the primary cause of his retirement. He died from a heart attack in April 2021. To date, the band has released 19 studio albums, the most successful of which was 1978's Legend, which featured the Billboard Hot 100 #17 and Adult Contemporary #1 hit "Crazy Love". The band's most recent album was 2013's All Fired Up. Poco are considered one of the founders of the Southern California country rock sound, and three of the members of the band have been inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as members of other bands (Furay with Buffalo Springfield, Meisner and Schmit with The Eagles). Paul Davidson - Midnight Rider - 08-05-1976 • TopPop
"Midnight Rider" is a song by the American rock band the Allman Brothers Band. It was the second single from their second studio album, Idlewild South (1970). The song was primarily written by vocalist Gregg Allman, who first began composing it at a rented cabin outside Macon, Georgia. He enlisted the help of roadie Robert Kim Payne to complete the song's lyrics. He and Payne broke into Capricorn Sound Studios to complete a demo of the song. While the original Allman Brothers release of the song did not chart, cover versions were much more successful. A cover by Jamaican singer, Paul Davidson, represented its biggest peak in the United Kingdom, where it hit number ten. In Holland it reached #11 in the Dutch Top 40 in May 1976. "Money, Money, Money" was written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. It was released as a single on 1 November 1976, as the follow-up to "Dancing Queen" (both from the album Arrival). The B-side, "Crazy World", was recorded in 1974 during the sessions for the album ABBA. The song (originally titled "Gypsy Girl") is sung from the viewpoint of a woman who, despite hard work, can barely keep her finances in surplus, and therefore desires a well-off man. It reached the no. 1 position in The Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, France and Germany, and no. 2 in norway, and Switzerland. In the UK it reached #3. The Bellamy Brothers are an American pop and country music duo consisting of brothers David Milton Bellamy (born September 16, 1950) and Homer Howard Bellamy (born February 2, 1946), from Darby, Florida. The singer died after a short illness at the age of 72 in his hometown of Newcastle, reports the organization of the Night of the Proms, where he was an annual regular guest. Miles is best known for the song Music, which became a number 1 hit in 1976. The success led to a joint tour with Elton John. In 1982 the song again became a hit in the Netherlands. The song became the anthem of Night of the Proms, which had its first edition in Antwerp in 1985. Since then, Miles has attended almost every year. Music was Miles' only hit in the Netherlands. The song still occupies a place in the Top 2000 of NPO Radio 2. Last year it was at position 236.
