Flairck - De houten bruiloft - 2-9-1988 • TopPop
Flairck is a Dutch acoustic band, founded in 1978 by brothers Erik and Hans Visser, Judy Schomper and Peter Weekers. Judy Schomper was soon to be replaced by violonist Sylvia Houtzager. The name Flairck is a combination of the English Flair and the Dutch 'vlerk', just as the music shows a combination of various styles and cultures. Flairck plays almost exclusively their own compositions, generally instrumental, sometimes based on classical-romantic music, sometimes with obvious influences from Celtic or Romanesque culture. This track was recorded for the AVRO TV Special around the 10th birthday of the groep. Broadcast date: 2 September 1988 Watch our great music videos ❯ https://goo.gl/feVLNN More TopPop? The Christians - Ideal World (1988) • TopPop
The Christians are a musical ensemble from Liverpool, England. The name of the band refers to the surname of the three brothers that were originally in the line-up, and is also coincidentally guitarist Henry Priestman's middle name. Garry Christian (born 27 February 1955, Liverpool) (lead vocals), Roger Christian (born 13 February 1950; died 8 March 1998 from brain tumour) (vocals, instrumentalist), Russell Christian (born 8 July 1956) (keyboards, saxophone, vocals), and Henry Priestman (born Henry Christian Priestman, 21 June 1955, in Kingston upon Hull, brought up in Liverpool) (keyboards, guitars, vocals) formed the band in 1985. Paul Barlow (drums), Mike Bulger (guitar/vocals) and Tony Jones on bass were also early members. Because of a reluctance to tour, Roger left in 1987. Their first five singles all made the Top 40 in Britain, and their debut album The Christians (1987) entered the UK Albums Chart at number 2. It eventually sold over a million copies. The highest-placed single from this album was "Ideal World", which reached number 14 in the UK Singles Chart. This TopPop recording was first broadcast on 11 January, 1988. Matt Bianco - Don't Blame It On That Girl (1988) • TopPop
Matt Bianco are a British band that were formed in 1983. They are mainly known for their success in the mid-1980s and their jazz, Latin-flavoured music. The group's name suggests that Matt Bianco is a person, often assumed to be an alias for the main member and front man Mark Reilly. According to the group, however, Matt is in fact "a made up spy, a secret agent; we loved spy TV themes and film scores". Matt Bianco was formed in 1983 by Mark Reilly (vocals), Danny White (keyboard), Kito Poncioni (bass) – all of whom had just left art pop group Blue Rondo A La Turk) – and vocalist Basia Trzetrzelewska.[ 'Indigo', Matt Bianco's third album, was Warner Brothers' attempt to launch Matt Bianco in the United States, hence the hiring of Emilio Estefan (Gloria Estefan's husband) as producer. He contributed to three of the tracks on the album, including the first single "Don't Blame It on That Girl". By reaching number 23 in the UK Albums Chart, Indigo became the highest-charting album for the group, and it also includes their highest-charting single, the double A-side "Don't Blame It on That Girl" / "Wap-Bam-Boogie", reaching number 11 in the UK Singles Chart.
