Officials in Israel are taking seriously a recent upsurge in spitting and hitting attacks on clergy, and vandalism of Christian sites. The most recent attacks led Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Israeli Police Commissioner, Maj.-Gen. Yaakov Shabtai, to meet leaders of the Orthodox and Catholic Churches of the Holy Land. "In recent months," Herzog said, "We have seen very serious phenomena towards the Christian denominations in the Holy Land. Our brothers and sisters, Christian citizens, who feel attacked in their places of prayer, in their cemeteries, on the streets." Christians in Jerusalem's Old City say they are often harassed, spit at, and even physically attacked by religious Jewish youths. CBN News. The longest suspension bridge in Israel opens in Jerusalem The bridge, measuring 202 meters long, breaks the Israeli record that stood until today at 80, and connects the Hinnom Valley to Mount Zion One of the most prominent tourist projects in Israel – the suspension bridge in Jerusalem – has officially opened to the public, after several months of intensive construction. The suspension bridge built in Jerusalem stretches to a length of no less than 202 meters, thereby breaking the previous Israeli record of 80 meters for the suspension bridge in Nahal HaBesor. Another 70-meter suspension bridge is located in the town of Nesher. The new bridge, located in the Jerusalem Walls National Park, connects between the slopes of the Hinnom Valley and Mount Zion. It is near the Agricultural Farm in the Hinnom Valley, which conducts ancient agricultural activities such as olive pressing and wine preparation. It is also close to the City of David National Park, the Jerusalem Food Truck Festival which is open until the end of August, the First Station Complex and the Sultan’s Pool. The bridge is set to become a popular tourist attraction in the Capital. The bridge is open from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm daily and is for pedestrians only. Children up to the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Israel’s hard-line stance - Palestinian children tried in military courts | DW Documentary
More than 700 Palestinian children and young people are arrested every year by the Israeli army. Some are locked up for years, usually because they’ve thrown stones at occupying Israeli troops. Whereas Israeli youngsters caught doing something similar are tried in civilian courts, Palestinian children are put through the military justice system, inevitably resulting in harsher punishments. A UNICEF report from the year 2013 accused Israel of crimes against humanity in its treatment of Palestinian children. Adam Darwish, Ali Jawarish, Muhammad Al-Masaid and Anas Al-Masaid all served long prison terms. For the film, they were willing to watch video recordings of their interrogations by Israeli military police and talk about what happened to them. Their stories mirror those of thousands of Palestinian children arrested by the Israeli army in recent years. And they’re also part of the history of the State of Israel, which has been exacerbating the situation of people in the occupied territories for decades with a settlement policy that is illegal under international law. The film also hears from representatives from the Israeli side. These include a soldier involved in numerous arrests and a former military prosecutor. Sie feuerte Tausende Raketen auf Israel ab, zugleich überwanden deren Kämpfer die stark gesicherte Grenze, drangen bis zu 24 Kilometer tief nach Israel ein, erschossen zahlreiche Menschen und entführten andere in den Gazastreifen. Israelischen Medienberichten zufolge wurden bei den Angriffen mindestens 700 Menschen in Israel getötet.
