Paul Verhoeven's Starship Troopers a Horror Film? 16:50
Paul Verhoeven's Starship Troopers a Horror Film?
Look, I don’t want to waste anyone’s time- We all know that Starship Troopers isn’t a horror movie. It’s a science fiction intergalactic comedy with a light tone and Neil Patrick Harris- but it’s also a well-made and tightly performed 90’s creature feature that is sure to tickle the nostalgia bone for many JoBlo Horror fans. So, my goal today isn’t to convince you that Starship Troopers is a horror movie- but what’s more is that I want to convince you that it’s worth watching anyway. And the best way I know how to do that is to put this movie over the microscope and figure out just what it is that makes it so special after all these years. I’m Kier with JoBlo Horror Originals, and you’re watching Deconstructing. WATCH OR OWN THE FILM HERE: https://shorturl.at/atNPS Written, Narrated, and Edited by Kier Gomes Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian SERIES SYNOPSIS: DECONSTRUCTING is a monthly web series in which we choose one of your favorite horror movies and take it apart piece by piece (lovingly, of course) to see what makes it a classic. The Iron Claw: What Really Happened To The Von Erichs? 18:18
The Iron Claw: What Really Happened To The Von Erichs?
In the immortal words of Lord Byron, the truth is often stranger than fiction. No timeless adage better applies to The Iron Claw, Sean Durkin’s riveting and emotionally fraught biographical tale of the Von Erich brothers, professional wrestlers who rose to prominence in the early 1980s. Based on the true events that shaped the Von Erich family, the film careens down a path of such unmistakable triumph and unthinkable tragedy that one can only sit back and wonder how much, if anything, was embellished or fabricated to increase the dramatic stakes of the story. In particular, the movie explores the lasting effects of “The Von Erich Curse,” which affected the lives of each family member in different ways through a profoundly unfortunate set of circumstances that downright defy belief. Although the film has received unanimous praise for its stark realism and gritty authenticity, it’s worth exploring the minor and major differences between what transpired in reality and what is depicted onscreen. After all, some crucial aspects of the Von Erich story have been glossed over, downplayed, briefly touched upon, streamlined for the sake of time, or omitted entirely in the film. Between the curious absence of the sixth brother, Chris Von Erich, and the origins of the Von Erich Curse to the accuracy of the wrestling matches, and more, it’s time to hit the mat, separate fact from fiction and find out once and for all, What The F*ck Really Happened to The Iron Claw? In The Mouth Of Madness: Does It Stand The Test Of Time? 09:32
In The Mouth Of Madness: Does It Stand The Test Of Time?
If you’ve been keeping up with this show, you have probably learned what the rules are in terms of what we tackle. Those rules, of course, are that there are no rules whatsoever and we cover whatever sounds good or we think would be an interesting topic. In The Mouth of Madness came out in Italy in late 1994 and that means, gulp, that movie is now 30 years old. It came during an interesting time in the master of horrors career when he was running flop after flop and being disappointed by studios interference and stars that weren’t willing to be true collaborators. It’s the ending of a loose trilogy and in some people’s estimation his last great film. Is In the Mouth of Madness a tale that stands the Test of Time, or should it be put in the bargain bin of the now defunct crown books? Lived any good books lately? WATCH OR OWN THE FILM HERE: https://amzn.to/3t2jVDA Written By: Andrew Hatfield Narrated By: Niki Minter Edited By: Mike Conway Produced by: Lance Vlcek and John Fallon Executive Produced by: Berge Garabedian SERIES SYNOPSIS: Test Of Time is a series that takes a look back at some of the classics of our beloved genre and finds out whether or not they, you guessed it, stand the Test Of Time! ¿Qué Sucedió con DUNGEONS & DRAGONS? (CALABOZOS Y DRAGONES) 13:06
¿Qué Sucedió con DUNGEONS & DRAGONS? (CALABOZOS Y DRAGONES)
The Terminator: Revisiting the Movie That Made Schwarzenegger An Icon 16:04
The Terminator: Revisiting the Movie That Made Schwarzenegger An Icon
There’s one line that will forever go down in movie history as one of the most iconic moments of dialogue ever, and it was almost never to be. While filming the 1984 sci-fi / action / horror classic The Terminator, director James Cameron had initially written the line for Arnold Schwarzenegger as “I’ll come back”. However, as seen in the recent Netflix documentary series on the Austrian Oak, Arnie and Cameron had a heated clash over the line. Schwarzenegger hadn’t said the line correctly so Cameron suggested he just say the now iconic “I’ll be back” instead, leading Arnie to questioning the director’s writing, and getting a suitably pissed-off response in return. This is just one example of how The Terminator not only became one of the most beloved movie franchises in Hollywood history, well, it is if you stop at part two that is, but that’s a story for later. It also launched the career of an actor who, up until its release, had been an enormously successful bodybuilder, with roles in smaller features, plus an awesome turn as Conan the Barbarian in the John Miluis epic from 1982. So, get yourselves glammed up for a night at Tech Noir as we head out to party with The Terminator here on ARNIE REVISITED!
