The surprise here isn’t so much the plot, but some of the methods Sorenson uses to exact his vengeance. As for El Rojo, he’s referred to that precisely one time in this version of the film. Es handelt sich um den achten von zwölf Western aus der Sicht verschiedener Stämme mit Gojko Mitic in der Hauptrolle, der in diesem Fall auch das Drehbuch geschrieben hat und durch diese Filme in Osteuropa zum Star wurde, und der gut inszeniert und schön gedreht wurde. Nicht die Realität, wohlgemerkt, aber das Ideal. Was aber wirklich lustig ist, ist die Tatsache, dass dieser Film nach heutigen Maßstäben wirklich nicht wie Propaganda wirkt. Er wirkt viel authentischer als alle Spaghetti-Western, die ich zu diesem Thema gesehen habe - NAVAJO JOE fällt mir da sofort ein - und spielt zeitweise sogar wie "Blood Meridian" aus der Sicht der Indianer. Der Film basiert angeblich auf Recherchen über ein echtes Massaker, das sich zu Beginn des mexikanisch-amerikanischen Krieges ereignete. Die Kostüme und das Produktionsdesign sind großartig, die Actionszenen sind großartig, und trotz all meines Geschwätzes über den soziopolitischen Kontext ist es ein unterhaltsamer Western, was er sicher auch sein sollte. Der Bösewicht sieht dem italienischen Schauspieler Piero Lulli sehr ähnlich, raucht eine Riesenzigarre und benutzt eine Peitsche. Giuliano Gemma está bem adaptado ao papel do homem da lei erroneamente denunciado por um crime que não cometeu em busca de justiça a sul da fronteira entre os actores extra fortemente constituídos que parecem tão autênticos como os camponeses mexicanos como os Little Rascals. O que faz o filme funcionar é a proeza visual de Ferroni, combinando filmagens de palco sonoras com trabalhos de localização (alguns dos quais se parecem com a Jugoslávia ou talvez a França) e uma profunda compreensão de como usar a cor para fazer composições visuais que apenas acontecem para representar um filme de cowboys. Este não é bem um "Spaghetti Western", com uma história pesada de enredo em vez da habitual postura e artimanha exagerada de um filme de Leone ou Corbucci. Há muito poucos close-ups de sapatos de pessoas, e as sequências de acção são mais ou menos simples. O filme existia na página antes de ser visualmente realizado. E por essa razão acho-o interessante; há aqui uma tendência surrealista a criar realidades que são mais "reais" do que um filme de John Ford. O que o filme pode estar a faltar em termos de autenticidade ou de talento visual é mais do que compensado por um sentido deliberado de composição. O filme parece um desenho animado ou um romance gráfico em vez de um filme épico empoeirado e empoeirado, e a atenção ao personagem e aos detalhes do cenário é refrescante. Merino, reżyser, był bardziej zainteresowany horrorem i sci-fi niż westernem, może dlatego ten film wygląda (i działa) jak horror w wielu momentach, co czyni go o wiele bardziej interesującym i dziwacznym, dialogi są nieco głupie, ale praca kamery jest bardzo bogata, a gra aktorska jest wystarczająco dobra, jak można sobie wyobrazić, film jest pełen stereotypów, ponieważ został zrobiony w Hiszpanii pod koniec lat sześćdziesiątych "złotej ery" hiszpańskich westernów. Marisa Paredes (ulubiona aktorka Pedro Almodovara) pojawia się w tym filmie (w wieku 18 lat) piękniejsza niż kiedykolwiek, ale sprawdźcie też inne piękne kobiety... W jednej ze scen, gdy film zbliża się do punktu kulminacyjnego, mamy do czynienia z bardzo dziwnym zastosowaniem zoomu w pracy kamery. Zamiast typowych dla Sergia Leone zbliżeń, reżyser stosuje gwałtowne przybliżenia i oddalenia, aby uzyskać bardziej niepokojący efekt. Okazuje się, że jest to jedna z najbardziej pamiętnych części filmu. Muzyka jest prawdopodobnie najlepszą częścią tego filmu. Temat otwierający jest jednym z moich ulubionych, i jest jednym z tych niezapomnianych melodii, które będą odtwarzane w pamięci na długo po zakończeniu filmu.
