Donald McLean (born October 2, 1945) is an American singer-songwriter. He is best known for his 1971 song "American Pie", which was a number-one US hit for four weeks in 1972 and reached #2 in the UK charts. "Crying" is a song written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson. It is their biggest international hit untill today and a signature song in their repertoire. It appeared on their 1973 gold album 'Moontan'. The single version of "Radar Love" reached the top of the Dutch charts 50 years ago: In the Dutch Top 40 it reached # 1 on 15 september 1973 and in the Dutch Top 30 it reached # 1 one week earlier, on 8 september 1973. It kept the number one position for four weeks. Golden Earring toured frequently in the USA. Consequently ‘Radar Love’ reached #10 on the Cash Box Top 100 and #13 in Billboard in the United States. It also hit the Top 10 in many countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, and Spain. During concerts the band effortlessly stretches the song to fifteen minutes with the band members excelling in bass, guitar and drum solos respectively, with drummer Cesar Zuiderwijk jumping over his drum set. Golden Earring is a Dutch rock band, founded in 1961 in The Hague as The Golden Earrings. They achieved worldwide fame with their international hit songs "Radar Love" in 1973, "Twilight Zone" in 1982, and "When the Lady Smiles" in 1984. During their career they had nearly 30 top-ten singles on the Dutch charts; over the years they produced 26 studio albums. Golden Earring always had the same line-up since the early seventies: Barry Hay, vocals, George Kooymans, guitar, Rinus Gerritsen, bass and Cesar Zuiderwijk, drums. The band stopped after Kooymans was diagnosed with the disease ALS. This TopPop recording was made and broacast at the special occasion of the 10th anniversary of Toppop on 26 September 1980. Charles Aznavour - Mes Emmerdes • TopPop 03:09
Charles Aznavour - Mes Emmerdes • TopPop
Charles Aznavour was a French-Armenian singer, lyricist, actor and diplomat. Aznavour was known for his distinctive vibrato tenor voice: clear and ringing in its upper reaches, with gravelly and profound low notes. In a career as a composer, singer and songwriter, spanning over 70 years, he recorded more than 1,200 songs interpreted in 9 languages. Moreover, he wrote or co-wrote more than 1,000 songs for himself and others.[6] Aznavour has been widely recognized as one of the greatest and most influential musicians of all time. One of France's most popular and enduring singers, Aznavour sold between 180 and 200 million records during his lifetime, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He was dubbed France's Frank Sinatra, while music critic Stephen Holden described Aznavour as a "French pop deity". He was also arguably the most famous Armenian of his time. In 1998, Aznavour was named Entertainer of the Century by CNN and users of Time Online from around the globe. He was recognized as the century's outstanding performer, with nearly 18% of the total vote, edging out Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. Jean Cocteau once said: "Before Aznavour despair was unpopular". Hootenanny Singers - ft. Björn Ulvaeus - Darlin • TopPop 03:02
Hootenanny Singers - ft. Björn Ulvaeus - Darlin • TopPop
This very rare recording of The Swedish Hootenanny singers, featuring Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA was recently found in our vaults. It is part of a tv special recorded for Dutch AVRO TV. Björn is the lead singer in this song. The Hootenanny Singers were a popular folk group from Sweden, founded in 1961. The group included Björn Ulvaeus, who later was a member of ABBA. Other bandmembers were Johan Karlberg, Tony Rooth and Hansi Schwarz. The group was named "The Northern Lights" for an American-released LP in 1966. In 1964, they debuted on the Swedish TV programme Hylands Hörna with locally famous Swedish poet Dan Andersson's "Jag väntar vid min mila" (translated as "I'm Waiting at the Charcoal Kiln"). The song "Gabrielle" became an international hit song in 1964, translated and performed by the group in Swedish, German, Finnish, Italian, Dutch, and English. However, they extracted the tune from the Russian song "May There Always Be Sunshine" by Arkady Ostrovsky, who was never credited. Watch our great music videos ❯ https://goo.gl/feVLNN More TopPop?
