An old friend of Inspector Tibbs (Howard E. Rollins. Jr) is brought into the station suspected of murder. While the suspect retells his version of events and is interrogated by the other officers, Tibbs struggles to decide if he's guilty or innocent.

When the drowned body of Rebecca Lewis is found washed up on a riverbank, her friend and Tibbs’ law school buddy, Mark Meyers is the prime suspect based on an eyewitness account. He’s arrested for murder, but Tibbs doesn’t think that Mark is guilty.
