The Star Wars prequel trilogy remains controversial nearly 25 years after the release of Episode I: The Phantom Menace. It was one of the most anticipated movies of all time when it came out in May 1999. Still, fans were lately left cold by the kid-oriented entry, which had a lot of Trade Embargoes and Pod Racing but little in the way of the high adventure of the original films, even if people loved Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi and his climactic, Duel of the Fates, battle with Darth Maul. The sequel introduced Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, and his performance and that of Natalie Portman as Padme were criticized, even if they did away with Jar-Jar Binks this time. Yet, the third entry, Revenge of the Sith, ended the trilogy on an appropriately dark note.
