Police were called at 10:01 pm on Dec. 1, 2019 to the Comstock Township home of Christopher Neal and Haley Coe after receiving 911 calls about a stranger, armed with two guns, who had entered the home and was holding the young family hostage. Shortly after dispatchers heard a male voice on the phone say Neal was dead, the homeowner (Neal) told deputies inside the home he was not, in fact, dead. But, minutes later, the 22-year-old was was shot and killed.Three police officers were shot. Each has since recovered. His wife, Haley and their 2-year-old daughter were not harmed.

William Paul Jones was charged with murder, home invasion and other felonies. He is awaiting trial. Authorities say Jones did not know the family and it’s still not clear why he broke into their home.
