Written by Colin Hay. Produced by Peter Mclan.
Hailing from the great music city of Melbourne, the band formed in 1978 and by January 1983 they had achieved a rare feat in rock and roll when their album “Business As Usual” topped both the US and UK charts at the same time as their single, “Down Under” was #1 on both countries’ singles’ charts.
The band comprising Colin Hay, Jerry Speiser, Ron Strykert, Greg Ham and John Rees released their first single, “Keypunch Operator” on their own MAW label in 1980. Working with American producer, Peter Mclan, “Who Can It Be Now” was the next single and went to #2 in Australia on release there in June 1981.
The album, “Business As Usual” – also produced by Peter Mclan – appeared in November 1981 and went to #1 in Australia before repeating that feat in both the US and the UK.
“It’s A Mistake” was the band’s sixth single and charted at #34 in Australia but reached #6 in the US and #33 in the UK. It was also a track on the “Cargo” album (Australia #1, US #3, UK #8), released in May, 1983. US Columbia issued this remixed version together with a remix of “Who Can It Be Now” in 1983.
