Developed and published by Mindscape in 1991
Based on the 90's cartoon show, Captain Planet and the Planeteers is a fairly average - often infuriating - platform game from Tony Crowther.
To his credit, the end result could have been far worse; Mindscape had done a deal with Commodore to include a Captain Planet game in the bundle, but didn't have an actual product, leaving Tony about a month to write the game from scratch.
The end result shows flashes of brilliance, although much of it is marred by clumsy mechanics and occasional glitches, no doubt as a result of the hurried development.
Even so, it's easy to see why it was included in the pack. The visuals, vibrant colours and soundtrack were amazing for the time, or at least to a generation of gamers who'd grown up with the ZX Spectrum, C64 and older 8-bit machines. I got my A500+ and the Cartoon Classics pack for Christmas 1991 and it was one of the happiest memories from my childhood - amazing times!
I noticed a couple of easter eggs while playing the game:
47:47 - There's a Lemming on the cliff face to the right of the screen
55:00 - Tony Crowther's moniker, 'RATT', can be seen hidden in the bottom layer of the screen
